SAFE Corporation Releases CodeCross for
Detecting Software IP Theft and Infringement
CUPERTINO, CA (January 22, 2009) - Software Analysis
& Forensic Engineering Corporation, the leading
provider of tools for detecting and measuring software
intellectual property, has just released a new tool
for comparing computer code to detect copyright infringement
and trade secret theft. CodeCross™ finds traces
of non-functional source code that have been copied
from one program to another.
CodeCross is part of CodeSuite®, which also comprises
BitMatch®, CodeDiff®, CodeMatch®, and SourceDetective™.
CodeMatch compares source code from two programs and
pinpoints areas of suspected copying. CodeDiff finds
differences in source code from programs that are nearly
identical and has been used to measure changes in software
IP. BitMatch is used to compare source code to executable
binary code; it can help determine whether a competitor
has misappropriated your code and whether to start litigation.
SourceDetective™ helps definitively prove or disprove
source code copying by automatically searching the Internet
and demonstrating that code elements in two different
programs are unique, rarely used, or commonplace. CodeSuite
has been used in over two dozen software lawsuits and
has become a de facto standard among IP attorneys.
According to Nikolaus Baer at Zeidman Consulting, a SAFE Corporation customer, "I
suggested the concept of CodeCross after working on cases where stolen code had
non-functional remnants in another party’s code. SAFE developed the tool quickly and
it works great. In one case I found traces of copied code that had previously gone
undetected."
CodeCross is available with CodeSuite 3.2.0 and can be downloaded for free from the SAFE
Corporation website.
